Nurse vs. Doctor vs. Mom

I work at a large teaching hospital, so every July is the "changing of the guards" - AKA The Interns (Doctors fresh out of school). As nurses we dread this month and brush up on our skills so we can prepare for the well educated, yet incompetent new interns. When I have to ask the intern why they are ordering a toe X-ray for a patient complaining of abdominal pain (OK it's not that bad, but you get the picture) it brings up the question I ask myself over and over again - WHY DIDN'T I BECOME A DOCTOR?! (Disclaimer: most of those interns become great doctors after a few humbling experiences and many more years of residency - some should still choose another field while they still can :D)
When I was first considering nursing school I seriously thought about going to medical school instead of nursing school. Even as a nurse I've struggled with the idea of going back to school. Then I remember the number one reason why I chose nursing school over medical school 10 years ago.........I wanted to be a full time mom and a very part time working women. Adam always asks me if I hate my job because I never want to go anymore, but I can say without question that I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job. It just becomes more apparent the more I'm home and the older my kids get how I love being a mom MORE. The whole working topic has arisen lately because we've decided that I can cut back to 1 day a week! We might have to live off corn dogs and nuggets (who am I kidding we live off them already) but it'll be worth it......right?!?!
There you have my rationale so I don't feel guilty for cutting back.
I know you guys don't really care about the blabbering you just want pictures, so here you go. Ava has been smiling and "talking" a lot more. It's hard to get a picture of it but this is the best I could do. The picture of Noah is what he does while I add a new post to my blog. He loves to hide in the most random places.

Blabbering is always welcome. I commend your decision to cut back on hours. How can you leave that pirate? Charlotte says, "What's that funny baby? That's baby Ava!" If she doesn't look like a pirate in person, we might have trouble convincing Char that this is Ava. Love you!

Good for you. Glad you don't feel guilty. I hated quitting work because I was only part time and I loved my job, but now I am way glad I did. They are only little once and time goes by so fast (except on Meggar Monster days).
* Love the pictures. THe flower outfit Ava has on is adorable.
* Love the Gut! It finally feels real. I will send you up some of my maternity shirts if you want them.

Punjab, you are sooo right. You will be happy to have the one day away from your beautiful children. That way, you will keep your hard-earned RN skills top notch. Noah, Ava and Mo are so lucky to have YOU FOR A MOM. Are you reading this, MARY? I love you.

You are brave and a wonderful mother. The bottle propping is going to be a very needed skill when the new baby comes! Are Noah's eyes closed? Have you heard the story about mom's brother that would close his eyes so no one could see him?

Glad you don't feel guilty. The work vs mom thing has been one of the biggest struggles of my life. Love my job, love my kids. Need money, kids need a mom. I've been home for two yrs and I'm glad we made that choice. I have to go back part time this year for the money but I'm glad I can be there when they need me. Glad you can too!

For heaven's sake, Summer, I'm surprised you've still been working at all! Months of morning sickness, new baby, still pregnant--I am impressed you've managed to have any sort of energy left over for work. But I have to agree with you--you would have made a fabulous doctor. Maybe you should look into being a nurse practicioner sometime.

1 day a week sounds just about right. Don't tell my kids, but I miss working. And don't tell Dan, but I usually end up taking a day "off" once a week when my kids end up watching movies all day long while I slack and read a book. We all know being a mom is the best but we also need a break to make us better at it!

The pictures of Ava with her mouth wide open and the grin look totally like Meg. I love all these fun pictures.
I am way bad, I didn't realize your blog went private and so this whole time I thought that you just hadn't posted. So I have totally missed out. I definitely changed it on my blog and will be checking now more frequently. I wanted to see pictures for so long and so now I have to play catch up. I love all of them!!!
